Leadership Secret How To Attract Committed People

I want to start this article off by quoting Rupert Murdoch. He once said, In motivating people, you've got to engage their minds and their hearts. I motivate people, I hope, by example - and perhaps by excitement, by having productive ideas to make others feel involved.

I want to focus on the last part of that quote which says make others feel involved . As a leader, not only should you make people feel involved, I believe that if you want to attract committed people to your team, you have to make them know that it s their team.

Inspiring and motivating people are great. But I have seen so many leaders reverse what they were trying to do by disempowering the very people that they are trying to inspire and motivate. I have heard so many leaders talk about people who joined their team, organization, or business, seemed very committed at the beginning, but ended up not sticking around. As a leader, you know how frustrating it is to have to train someone else up to fill the position that is now empty.

However, on closer inspection of the situation, a large majority of the reason someone has lost commitment is because they no longer feel that they have any type of ownership in the team. They feel like they are no longer looked upon as a contributing factor and are only looked at as a work horse.

It s very important as a leader to remember the reasons why you brought someone on in the first place. If you didn t think they had the goods for the position, you should have never brought them on in the first place.

However, if you as a leader will empower your people so they can flourish where they are, you will find that they will be the most committed people you could ever find because they feel like they are an integral part of the team.
